Greg Pegues Elected President of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association
TUPELO, Miss. — Greg Pegues was elected president of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association at their recent convention in New Orleans. Pegues will serve as president for the 2015-2016 term. He previously served as president for the 2010-2011 term. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors has been a member of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association for over 100 years.
Pegues is president of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors of Tupelo. Raised in Tupelo, he represents the fourth generation of the Pegues family to enter funeral service. He is a graduate of Tupelo High School, the University of Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and completed his mortuary science education at Northwest Community College. He is also a 1985 graduate of the National Foundation of Funeral Service Management. He is a member of the Tupelo Kiwanis Club, serves on the BancorpSouth community bank board, and is chairman of the Oren Dunn Museum Advisory Committee. He is past president of the William Gray Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. From 2001-2005, he served on the board of directors for Selected Independent Funeral Homes. He has been affiliated with W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors since 1979.
He is the son of Norma Crockett Pegues and the late William E. "Bill" Pegues. He and his wife Sandy have three children – Whitney Camille, William Edward, IV, and Wriley Abigail. His family and he are members of Calvary Baptist Church.
The Mississippi Funeral Directors Association was formed to cultivate and promote the art and science of funeral directing and embalming; to elevate and sustain the professional character and education of funeral directors and embalmers; to encourage among them mutual improvement, social interaction and good will and to the necessity and desirability of enacting and enforcing proper, just and uniform laws pertaining to funeral directing and embalming in the State of Mississippi.
