Are you considering cremation services in Pontotoc, MS for yourself? Or are you going to be helping to plan cremation services for a loved one sometime soon? Either way, it’s going to be of the utmost importance for you to understand the cremation process inside and out. It’s not a particularly complicated process, but it is one that can cause some confusion if you’ve never learned about it before. Here is a step-by-step guide that breaks down the cremation process from start to finish.

The cremation process starts with the proper identification of a person’s body.

The first thing that a funeral home will do at the beginning of the cremation process is identify a person’s body. Each individual funeral home takes a slightly different approach to this. But it’s obviously very important for them to identify a person’s body accurately and to seek the proper authorization from their family so that they can carry their cremation out. A cremation will not begin until identification has happened and a funeral home feels comfortable with moving forward.

It continues with a person’s body being prepared for cremation.

Once a person’s body has been properly identified, a funeral home will then move on to preparing the body for cremation. To do this, they’ll start by removing any jewelry that they might have on. They’ll then take out any medical devices that they might have in. And after those things are done, they’ll put a person’s body into a cremation container that consists of combustible materials. This will ensure that their body is 100 percent ready for the cremation to begin.

It progresses to the actual cremation taking place.

After a person’s body has been prepared for their cremation, it’ll be time for the cremation to actually take place. To cremate a person’s body, a crematory will turn the temperature inside of a cremation chamber up to at least 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit. In some cases, the temperature might even climb as high as 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. A person’s body will then be placed into the cremation chamber and left there for up to 2 hours. That should be enough to cremate their body and reduce it down to bone fragments.

It ends with a person’s cremated remains being processed and given to their family.

At the conclusion of a person’s cremation, the bone fragments that are left behind will be processed before they’re given to the person’s family. Processing involves taking the bone fragments and breaking them down so that they’re very small and uniform in size. The remains are then put into a cremation container or a cremation urn and handed over to a person’s family. From there, they can choose whether they want to take the remains home, bury the remains, or scatter the remains in a special place. The cremation process will officially be complete.
