Whitney Camille Pegues-Beck, daughter of Greg and Sandy Pegues, joined the staff of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors on August 1, 2013. She is the fifth generation of the Pegues family to join Tupelo's oldest family-owned and operated business.


Whitney is a 2005 graduate of Tupelo High School with honors. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2009 from The University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss, she was an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority where she served as a new member educator and Vice President of Administration. While attending college, she also gained valuable experience working in the family business. After graduation from Ole Miss, Whitney joined the management team of Electronic Environments, Inc. in New York, New York, where she met her husband, Jason Beck. Jason and Whitney married in Tupelo on May 24, 2014 and welcomed their first son, Harrison Hayes Beck on May 22, 2020.


Whitney is currently a member of the Gumtree Museum of Art Guild of Volunteers, where she has served as President and serves on the Gumtree Museum of Art Board of Directors where was has previously served as Chairperson of the Board, she is also a member of Tupelo's Rotary Club and a 2020 graduate of the Leadership Academy of Selected Independent Funeral Homes. She is a member of the Tupelo Women's Club, where she previously served on the board and a graduate of the 2017 class of the Community Development Foundation's Community Leadership Institute.


As an Ole Miss graduate, in 2019 she became a Lifetime member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association. On June 14, 2017, Whitney was installed as Mississippi Funeral Directors' Northern District Governor and continued to serve going through all the chairs and on May 24, 2022, she was installed as MFDA President. Whitney has been and continues to be involved in the Next-Gen Selected Independent Funeral Homes including serving as a co-chair of the event in 2017. In 2021, she was the recipient of the NextGen Professional of the Year Award by Selected, This award highlights career achievements and community involvement of funeral professionals under the age of 50. She is a Licensed Funeral Director and Insurance Agent.

Raised in Tupelo, Greg represents the fourth generation of the Pegues family to enter the funeral service. He is a graduate of Tupelo High School, and the University of Mississippi, and completed his mortuary science education at Northwest Community College. He also is a 1985 graduate of the National Foundation of Funeral Service Management. While in school, he continued to work with W. E. Pegues as well as Memphis Funeral Home.


He and his wife, Sandy have three children, Whitney Pegues-Beck, William Edward, IV, and Wriley Abigail and one grandson, Harrison Hayes Beck. He is a “30-year member” of the Tupelo Kiwanis Club, serves on the BancorpSouth community board, served as president and treasurer of the Oren Dunn Museum advisory board, and continues to serve on the Friends of the Oren Dunn Museum board. Greg is also active with Sons of the American Revolution and is the Past President of the William Gray Chapter in Tupelo. Greg had served two terms as President of the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association. From 2001 until 2005, he served on the board of directors for Selected Independent Funeral Homes. Greg was also named Funeral Director of the Year two times by the Mississippi Funeral Directors Association.


Greg and his family are members of Calvary Baptist Church. He has been affiliated with W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors since 1979. He enjoys woodworking, working on "his farm", collecting old Matchbox cars, and especially hiking, backpacking and camping. He is the son of the late Norma Crockett Pegues and the late William E. "Bill" Pegues.

Licensed funeral director Marla Ledbetter rejoined the Pegues family in 2020, bringing with her over 20 years of dedicated experience in the funeral industry. Marla’s deep compassion and commitment to serving families during their most vulnerable times have made her a trusted and cherished member of the team. She is truly thankful for the opportunity to serve families at Pegues and considers it a meaningful privilege to use her gifts to provide comfort and support.

Marla is married to Terry Ledbetter, and together they are proud parents of three children—Amy, Andrew, and Aaron—and doting grandparents to seven grandchildren who fill their lives with joy and laughter.


A native of Memphis, Marla is a graduate of Briarcrest High School and Blue Mountain College. Before embracing her calling in funeral service, she shared her nurturing spirit as a kindergarten and middle school teacher. After relocating to Tupelo with her family, Marla found her true passion in the funeral profession, where she feels deeply grateful to use her gifts to support and comfort families.


When she’s not working, Marla is actively involved in her faith community at NorthStar Church, often attending services and church activities. She also delights in spoiling her grandchildren, embracing every opportunity to shower them with love and attention.

Steve Bramlett has been a friendly, familiar face at Pegues for decades—and for good reason. Born in Tupelo to Betty Bramlett and the late Jerry T. Bramlett, Steve is known not only for his professionalism and reliability but also for his sense of humor, approachable personality, and the way he brings a little light-heartedness into every room he enters.


A 1981 graduate of Nettleton High School, Steve went on to attend Itawamba Community College before earning his insurance license in 1982. Since then, he’s been an indispensable part of the Pegues advance planning and insurance staff, helping families with genuine care and clear guidance during some of life’s most important decisions.

Steve is married to the former Tracie Nichols of Tupelo, and together they’ve built a close-knit family full of love, laughter, and plenty of sports talk. He is the proud dad of three children—Jon Bramlett (and wife Roni), Molly Pirtle (and husband Brett), and Ella Bramlett—and an even prouder “Pop” to his grandchildren, Wells, Maren, and Hattie Bea.


A devoted sports enthusiast, Steve enjoys watching games, sharing stats, and likely has a story or two for every major moment in Mississippi sports history. More than anything, he loves spending time with his family, whether at home, in the stands, or just enjoying everyday life.

Steve’s kindness, quick wit, and easygoing nature make him a joy to work with and a trusted presence to the families he serves.

A Tupelo native, Robert is the son of the late Orville and Rebecca Wilson. He is a 1971 graduate of Tupelo High School and in 1975, received his BS in Business Administration from Mississippi State University. A versatile member of the Pegues staff, Robert assists with many aspects of funeral service and care but has truly committed his focus and become extremely proficient at working with families filling life insurance claims.


He is married to the former Pat Simmons of Endville and they have been longtime residents of the Brewer Community. Robert and Pat have two daughters, Tiffany Vaughan of Shannon and Amanda Wilson of Fort Wayne, Indiana and three grandchildren, Brooke, Eli and Owen. He enjoys woodworking, attending auctions and estate sales, hunting for unique antiques and fishing. He is currently serving as Master of Masonic Lodge 318 in Tupelo and is a member of Brewer Baptist Church.

Octavio Gómez joined the Pegues staff in 2025, bringing with him 38 years of experience as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Born in Versalles, Colombia, and later moving to Columbus, Mississippi, he graduated from S.D. Lee High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Mississippi State University and an Associate of Science degree in Mortuary Science from East Mississippi Community College. Returning to North Mississippi, Octavio is honored to continue his lifelong calling of serving families with compassion and care. A father of three and grandfather of four, Octavio enjoys sports, music, and singing outside of work. He is an active parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo, where he is also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Known for his kindness, humor, and dedication, he considers it a privilege to walk alongside families during their times of need.

A true cornerstone of the Pegues team, Harvey Raper has dedicated over four decades to serving families with compassion and reliability. A native and lifelong resident of the Richmond community, Harvey is the son of the late Rev. Jack and Beatrice Raper. He joined the Pegues staff in 1978 and has faithfully held a variety of roles throughout his tenure. After more than 30 years as a senior funeral director, he now leads our building and automotive maintenance, as well as cemetery equipment operations, ensuring every detail are handled with care.


Known for his work ethic and good-natured humor, Harvey keeps both the facilities—and his colleagues—running smoothly. He is married to the former Martha Gillespie, and they have one daughter, Lisa Reid, two grandchildren, Mindi and Cassidy, and four great-grandchildren: Dawson, Allison, Skyler, and Jenny. Harvey and Martha are devoted members of Richmond Pentecostal Church.

Born and raised in the close-knit community of Pontotoc, Stephanie is the daughter of Steve Johnson and Cindy and Gene Barton. Stephanie joined the staff at Pegues in 2019 and has become a highly valued member of the Pegues family. Demonstrating her commitment to personal and professional growth, Stephanie graduated with honors from Itawamba Community College in May 2023, earning an Associate of the Arts degree. Her relentless pursuit of knowledge and advancement now sees her undertaking a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi while apprenticing to become a licensed funeral director. Her professionalism, politeness, remarkable attention to detail, and exceptional customer service skills make her easy to converse with and her compassion and empathy offer a sense of comfort to the families we serve. She enjoys spending time with her family, exploring nature trails, and she especially loves attending tea parties hosted by her godchildren, Dani Marie and Hunter. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, Ole Miss Undergraduate Legal Society, and the Orchard Tupelo.

Born and raised in the close-knit Kirkville community of Itawamba County, Tammy is the proud daughter of Larry Maddox. She is a 1993 graduate of Baldwyn High School and has built a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. Tammy is married to Bro. Randy Clark, who pastors at Chesterville Baptist Church in Tupelo, where they are active and devoted members.


Together, Tammy and Randy are blessed with three wonderful children—Austin and his wife Annie, Jacob, and Lilah—and five beloved grandchildren who bring joy and energy to their lives. Before joining the Pegues family in January 2022, Tammy dedicated 26 years to her work at KI, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit until the Tupelo plant closed.


At Pegues, Tammy’s warm demeanor, genuine politeness, and exceptional customer service skills quickly set her apart. Her natural compassion and empathy provide a comforting presence to the families she serves during some of life’s most difficult moments.


When Tammy isn’t working, she can often be found fully engaged in her church community—attending services, participating in church events, or spending cherished time with family and close friends. Her faith and love for others are the cornerstones of her life, inspiring those around her every day.

Cynthia Beasley joined Pegues in 2025 as our bookkeeper, bringing both skill and a caring spirit to her work. A lifelong resident of Pontotoc, she and her husband, John, are the proud parents of two children. Cynthia values family deeply and approaches her role with the same dedication, making sure every detail is handled with accuracy and integrity.


When she is not at work, Cynthia enjoys spending time outdoors, especially riding four-wheelers and relaxing on pontoon rides with family and friends. She loves the beauty of nature and the joy of simple moments. Known for her kindness and warmth, Cynthia is a treasured part of the Pegues staff, and her presence adds both professionalism and heart to our team.

Phillip Wilburn is a Tupelo native who now calls Guntown home. A graduate of Faith Christian High School, Phillip pursued his passion for the arts by earning an Associate of Arts degree from Itawamba Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi State University. His journey has taken him beyond Mississippi, having lived in vibrant cities such as Birmingham, New York City, and New Orleans, experiences that have enriched both his life and perspective.


Phillip joined the Pegues team in 2023 and has quickly become a valued member, known for his thoughtful approach and genuine care for the families he serves. Family holds a special place in Phillip’s heart, and when he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his beloved dog, Chewy. He also loves diving into books, video games, board games, and movies, finding joy and relaxation in these pastimes.


Phillip’s blend of creativity, warmth, and dedication make him a welcomed presence at Pegues and a trusted support for the community.

Tommy Vickers brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and steady leadership to his role at Pegues. Originally from Gainesville, Georgia, Tommy has spent his life in service-oriented professions, guided by a deep sense of responsibility and care for others. 

He earned his pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia in 1972, after attending Truett-McConnell Junior College. For over 50 years, he has worked in both hospital and retail pharmacy settings, including a 31-year career with Eli Lilly. His professional background has instilled in him an unwavering attention to detail and calm, reassuring presence—qualities that serve him well in his work with grieving families.


Tommy has been part of the Pegues team for nearly a decade, where he is known for his dependability, warmth, and dedication to supporting both staff and the families they serve. He also works with Houston’s Pharmacy in Baldwyn and Westside Pharmacy, continuing a lifelong commitment to the well-being of his community.


Outside of work, Tommy enjoys woodworking, reading, and spending time with his dog, Domino. He is a long-time member of West Jackson Baptist Church, where he currently serves on the Accounting Committee. He and his wife, Jean, have been married since 1969 and are proud parents and grandparents. Tommy’s steady presence and genuine compassion make him a valued part of the Pegues team and a comforting resource to the families they serve.

Robert joined the Pegues team in April of 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience, a sharp analytical mind, and a strong desire to serve families with care and precision. A native and longtime resident of Pontotoc, Robert graduated from Pontotoc High School in 2000 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Managerial Finance from the University of Mississippi.


Before joining Pegues, Robert spent 15 years in the consumer finance industry, where he built a reputation for success through his professionalism, financial expertise, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His keen eye for numbers and strategic thinking make him an invaluable asset to the Pegues team, particularly in assisting families with insurance matters and financial planning during times of loss.


Outside of work, Robert is a man of many interests. He’s often found spending time with his loyal Anatolian Shepherd, Milo, or enjoying the open road in his car, which he takes great pride in. He also enjoys gardening, finding peace and satisfaction in watching things grow—a reflection of his thoughtful and patient nature. A curious and well-informed thinker, Robert enjoys reading and keeping up with current events, always eager to learn more and stay engaged with the world around him.

Blake Buchanan, a proud native of Mantachie now residing in Nettleton, brings a unique blend of heartfelt service, faith, and leadership to the Pegues family. Son of Scotty and Paula Jones, Blake graduated from Mantachie High School in 2013 before earning his Associate of Arts degree from Itawamba Community College. He furthered his education with a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry from Blue Mountain College, graduating in 2020.


Blake is happily married to Madalyn Tess Buchanan, and together they share a life rooted in faith and community. For ten years, Blake served as a dedicated member of the Greater Mantachie Fire Department, where his selfless commitment to others earned him the prestigious American Hero Award in 2016—a true testament to his courage and devotion.


In August 2024, Blake’s passion for spiritual leadership and community growth culminated in his instrumental role in planting River Of Life Church in Nettleton, where he now serves as pastor. An accomplished singer, Blake was the lead vocalist for the Trailsmen Quartet, sharing his musical gifts with many.


Since joining the Pegues team, Blake has become an invaluable asset, driven by a sincere dedication to treating every family with the same care, respect, and compassion he would wish for his own. His warm heart, steady presence, and unwavering commitment make him a cherished member of the Pegues family.

Creative, compassionate, and full of heart, Ellie Pennington brings a fresh perspective and a unique blend of artistry and warmth to the Pegues team. Born and raised in Saltillo, she is the daughter of Paige and Marc Long and a proud graduate of Saltillo High School, Class of 2021. During her time there, she served as president of the Art Club and was honored with the Art Department Award for her talent and dedication.


Ellie went on to study at Itawamba Community College, where she earned her Associate in Fine Arts degree in 2023. While at ICC, she embraced leadership opportunities—serving as Art Club president, communication leader for the Student Activities Board, and a Fashion Tribe board member—experiences that shaped her love for community and creativity.


Ellie joined Pegues in April 2025, and while she is still new to the team, she has already made a positive impression with her attention to detail, warm personality, and eagerness to learn. She brings a thoughtful and artistic eye to everything she does and is quickly growing in her role as she supports both colleagues and the families Pegues serves with care and compassion.


Outside of work, Ellie enjoys painting, baking sweet treats, and spending time with her husband, Sam—whom she first met on her very first day of kindergarten. The couple married on March 13, 2025, and now shares their home with four beloved cats who add joy and inspiration to her everyday life.

Jason Free brings a heart for ministry, a love for people, and a spirit of service to the Pegues team. A native of Parchman in Sunflower County, Jason is the son of Walter and Robbie Free and now resides in Pontotoc. He is a 1996 graduate of Drew High School and earned his Associate of Arts degree in Christian Ministry from Mississippi Delta Community College in 1998.


For most of his life, Jason has faithfully followed his calling in music ministry, sharing his gifts through worship and service. He continues to serve as a praise team member and keyboardist at Grace Pointe Church of God in New Albany, where his passion for music and ministry continues to uplift and inspire others.


Jason joined Pegues in May 2025 and, while still new to the team, he has already made a lasting impression with his quick wit, sense of humor, and lighthearted energy. His upbeat personality brings levity to even the busiest days, and his ability to connect with both colleagues and families makes him a welcome presence at Pegues.


On August 18, 2018, Jason married his wife and best friend, Shavon, and together they share three wonderful children: Caleb, Luke, and Ella. Outside of work, Jason enjoys cooking for loved ones, discovering new music for church, and spending quality time with his family.

Cody Stephens is a proud native of Prentiss County and has spent his entire life in Jumpertown, although he was raised in Wheeler. He is the son of Anthony and Jennifer Stephens. After graduating from Wheeler High School in 2013, Cody held several leadership positions, including Senior Class President, President of the Future Business Leaders of America, and President of the Future Farmers of America.


In 2016, Cody began pursuing a calling in pastoral ministry through the United Methodist Church, earning his pastoral license in 2017. He currently serves as pastor at Crossroads Church, his home congregation. His ministry deepened his passion for serving others, ultimately leading him into a career in funeral service.


With nearly a decade of experience, Cody is a valued member of the Pegues Funeral Home team. He obtained his Life Insurance license in 2020, his Crematory Operator license in 2021, and in 2023, he became a licensed Funeral Director in Mississippi.


On October 3, 2020, Cody married his soulmate, LeAnn Farley Stephens of Guntown. The couple welcomed their daughter, Preslee Marie Stephens, on March 27, 2025.

Outside of the funeral home, Cody enjoys reading, playing the piano, and playing the bass guitar.
