Wayne Spencer Davis, Sr.
Tupelo - On Thursday, June 25, 2026, Wayne Spencer Davis, Sr. took his last breath on Earth and breathed his first in Heaven after a brief stay in hospice following a massive stroke.
Wayne was born in Long Island, New York on March 22, 1951, to Leon Spencer and Theresa Camille Scarpa Davis. As a child he and his parents moved to east Tupelo Mississippi. Wayne bought his first guitar at age twelve, took one lesson and quit because he already figured out everything the teacher showed him. He was a gifted guitar player and musician who played with bands; The Inside Sound, Stage 3, and played for the Tidesmen Quartet from Grace Memorial Baptist Church. His sense of humor was legendary, and sometimes, questionable. He lived his life of music and laughter with his wife, Cathy in Rienzi, MS. Wayne had a varied work history that included long-haul trucking, Tecumseh Products and ultimately retired from Caterpillar Inc. in Corinth, MS.
He leaves behind his precious wife, Cathy; a son, Wayne Spencer Davis Jr. (Lynn) of Rienzi; a daughter, Amy Sanford (Chris) of Mooreville; and stepsons, Jason Hendershot (Shawn) of Windsor, Illinois, and Beau Hendershot (Kelly) of West Frankfort, Illinois.
His legacy includes grandchildren, Payton Dallas (Caulen) of Pontotoc, Hayden Davis (Chelsie) of Wren, Austin Sanford, Frankie Sanford, and Larkyn Sanford of Mooreville, Sadie Swinney (John) of Starkville, Ella Richardson of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Adam Hendershot, Lauren Hendershot, Shay Westfall, and Shelby Lawrence, all of Windsor, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Jett, Waverly, and Laney Collins Dallas; Danie and Delta Davis; Griff and Mary Carter Sanford; and Stetson Swinney.
Wayne truly lived Isaiah 38:20, The Lord was ready to save me, and therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life, in the house of the Lord.
Wayne will truly be missed be his family and friends. We thank you for your prayers and remembrances.
