IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter
Robinson
April 23, 1944 – February 27, 2026
Auburn Community- Roger Walter Robinson went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved.
Born on April 23, 1944, in Lee County, Mississippi, to Vernon and Christeen Robinson, Walter was the kind of man you could count on. If something broke, if you were stranded, or if you just needed help, he was the one people called. He showed up. That’s who he was.
He served in the Army Reserve and National Guard as a helicopter mechanic, a skill that fit him well. Walter understood how things worked. He could fix almost anything with an engine — from lawnmowers to helicopters — and if it had gears, wires, or bolts, he could get it running again.
But what people will remember most isn’t what he could fix — it’s who he was.
Walter never gave up on anyone. If you needed to use his phone, needed a ride, needed another chance, or just needed someone to listen, his door was open. No matter the hour. No matter the circumstance. He believed in people, even when they struggled to believe in themselves. That quiet kind of loyalty defined him.
He shared 42 years of marriage with the love of his life, Janice. It was truly love at first sight — three months of dating turned into a lifetime together. Though she preceded him in death in 2007, she remained an inseparable part of his story. Later, he was blessed to find love again with Joyce, sharing 16 wonderful years of marriage. Joyce stood faithfully by his side in sickness and in health, caring for him and spoiling him in the way only she could.
Walter loved working with his hands. Woodworking wasn’t just a hobby — it was one more way he took care of the people around him. If you needed something built, he got to work right away. Many homes are filled with pieces he crafted, each one a quiet reminder of him.
He also had a deep love for animals — from show horses to more unusual companions, including monkeys and even an alligator. His life was never boring, and neither was he.
Walter had a special pride in his red 1968 Ford truck, restoring it from the frame up and spending years taking it to car shows with friends. But even there, it wasn’t about the trophies — it was about the fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Robinson of Auburn Community; his daughters, Wendy Richey (David) of Mooreville and Becky Franks (Chris) of Dorsey; Joyce’s sons, Nick Nichols (Mandi) of Belden and Adam Reich (Megan) of Tupelo; his grandchildren, Kelly Summers, Leighanna Witt (Ryan), Danielle Davis (Alex), Teri McCarley (Randall), and Makinley Neighbors (Gregory); four step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He loved and loved and loved, and he always chose to see the good in people.
He is also survived by his sister, Martha Faye Shake of Nettleton, and his brother, Danny Joe Robinson (Redia) of Palmetto. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Janice; his brother, Robert Robinson; and his sisters, Frances Chism, Joann Robinson, and Dorothy McCollum.
Walter’s legacy isn’t measured in awards, years worked, or even the things he built. It lives in the people he helped, the second chances he gave, and in the many of us who were blessed to call him Papaw.
