Tommy Murphy

Tupelo – Tommy Stewart Murphy, 72, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2026. He was born Tuesday, August 3, 1954, to Marvin and Hazel Murphy, in Tupelo.

Tommy had a way of making the ordinary parts of life feel worth looking forward to. He loved being on his motorcycle and never missed the excitement of NASCAR racing. But some of his favorite times came on Friday mornings when he would meet up with the guys in Nettleton for breakfast club. Those mornings became a tradition, and the friendships around that table meant a great deal to him. On June 2, 1978, he married the love of his wife, Leigh, and they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage together. Tommy will be remembered by those who knew him for the life he made with Leigh, the friendships he kept close, and the everyday moments that brought happiness to everyone around him.

Tommy’s faith was woven into his life from an early age. He grew up in Shannon United Methodist Church and remained connected to his church throughout his life, later attending Palmetto Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Shannon High School in 1972, then he went to Mississippi State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1976. He went on to spend 20 years as a director with the Butler Snow law firm in Ridgeland, building a career marked by the same consistency and dedication he brought to the rest of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leigh Jobe Murphy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel Murphy; and brother, Andy Murphy.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

The memorial service honoring Mr. Tommy’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors, with Bro. Jeremy Funderburk officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick Godfrey, Ronnie Herdon, Jimmy Massengill, Curry Harsin, Billy Priest, Donny Smith and the rest of his morning breakfast club.
