Suzanne “Suzy” McGrath Barichivich
Suzanne Quinta McGrath Barichivich, 52, of Tupelo, died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at her family’s home in Tupelo. Suzy Q was born on October 3, 1973, in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Harold and Sharon McGrath. She was a graduate of Tupelo High School and a scholarship student at Mississippi State University, received a Master’s degree at the University of Mississippi, and was a National Board Certified teacher. She became an English teacher at Senatobia Municipal School District, then an English teacher at Tupelo Public School District from 2004 until 2018. In 2016, she met Geoffrey James Barichivich, and they were married at the Basilica of Saint Stephen’s Church of New Orleans on August 31, 2018. They resided in New Orleans, Louisiana where Suzy taught at Bay Waveland School District in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, until 2021.
Suzy was beloved by her students and her fellow teachers, who say she was an extraordinary English teacher. Beyond her teaching skills, she learned the arts through band, theater, and Madrigals. While she was at MSU, she was in the MSU marching band, Final 4 Pep Band, and the MSU Madrigals choir. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Tupelo and St. Stephen’s Good Shepherd Church in New Orleans.
She is survived by her husband Geoffrey Barichivich of New Orleans; mother-in-law Mary Barichivich of Zachary, Louisiana; five sisters, Lynn McGrath, Beth McGrath Harrison, Jennifer McGrath, Margaret McGrath, all of Tupelo, and Virginia McGrath Reason of Pontiac, Michigan; two brothers, Stephen McGrath (Jamie) of Tupelo and Michael McGrath of Las Vegas, Navada; sister-in-law Gretchen Allemon (Cliff) of Zachary, Louisiana; brothers-in-law John Barichivich (Lori) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Gretel Orellana (Jorge) of Little Rock, Arkansas and Jared Barichivich (Melanie) of Roswell, Georgia; and will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Christian, Corey (Hannah), and Regina Harrison of Tupelo; Jacob (Sarah) Harrison of Flowood, Mississippi; Ethan, Deuce, Hannah (Adin), Tess, Quentin, and Isaac McGrath of Tupelo; Meg Gousset of Tupelo; Emma Gousset of Seattle, Washington; Kayla, Gabriel, Vin Morris and Charlie, Cate, and Virginia Reason of Pontiac, Michigan; Grace; Meghan; Georgia; Jessalyn; Maddie; Gabe; and John-Glenn; she is also missed by many great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents, Harold and Sharon McGrath of Tupelo, father-in-law John Barichivich of Zachary, Louisiana, and niece Mary Margaret Knight of Saltillo.
The family would like to give special thanks to her sitters, Hannah Harrison and Johnnie Lewis, and the Gentiva hospice staff.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Saint James Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be 12 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Saint James Catholic Church with Father Tim Murphy, Father Henry Shelton and Father Jesuraj Xavier officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the place she adopted her beloved dog, Yatzee, the Tupelo Lee Humane Society, P.O. Box 2143, Tupelo, Mississippi 38803.
Pallbearers will be Jared Barichivich, Christian Harrison, Jacob Harrison, Ethan McGrath, Christian McGrath, and Quentin McGrath.
