Susie Ray

February 7, 1962 — August 19, 2023

Tupelo-- Susie Ray, a vibrant soul with an indomitable spirit, left this world on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the age of 61. She passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born February 7, 1962, to James and Delores Featherston in Atlanta, Georgia. Susie was one of a kind. She lived each day as a celebration. Whether on her own or with friends, Susie was determined to have a good time and share her laughter with all those fortunate enough to be in her company.

Susie was a culinary maestro, as she crafted meals that not only satisfied the palate but also warmed the heart. Her skill at the game of Rook was equally impressive. However, Susie’s impact extended far beyond her kitchen and game table. As a sister, mother, and “crazy aunt,” Susie was a pillar of support and a source of unwavering love for her family. She proudly embraced the title of “Crazy Aunt Susie,” a moniker that perfectly captured her unique and wild nature. With an adventurous heart, she filled the lives of her family with endless laughter and unforgettable memories.

Susie leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Gary Ray of Tupelo; one daughter, Katie Ray Beasley and her husband, Luca, of Tupelo; two sisters, Abby Paine and her husband, Larry, of Memphis, Tennessee and Jennifer Luzietti and her husband, Rich, of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Jimmy Featherston and his wife, Jodi, of Byron, Georgia; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rudy and Steve Johnson.

A celebration of Susie’s life will be Saturday, September 2, 2023, in Memphis, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1800 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38801.
