Sharon "Sherry" Brown Hughes

Mooreville – Sharon “Sherry” Brown Hughes, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved her on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born to the late Sayles Lawrence Brown and Gertrude Ellis Brown on November 14, 1946.

She grew up in Clarksdale where she graduated from Clarksdale-Coahoma High School. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She truly loved her sons and grandchildren deeply.

Sherry had such a good sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She always laughed at her own jokes and said everyone has always said, “I should have been a comedian.” Her laughter brought so much light to those who loved her.

Sherry had a love like no other for animals. They brought her comfort and happiness. Her family often joked that she loved animals more than she did her family.

Over the last several years of her life, she was cared for by her daughter-in-law, Brandi Hughes. The devotion and compassion was truly a blessing and meant the world to her.

Sherry will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, deep love for her family, and the strength she carried through life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will continue through generations.

She is survived by her sons, Harold Hughes (Brandi), and Corey Hughes (Amy); her grandchildren, Trip Hughes (Rain), Taylor Hughes (Trace), Chance Hughes (Sarah), Dalton Hughes, Mackenzie Long (Jacob), Morgan Hamlin (Will), Caroline Chandler, Ella Hughes, and Carter Chandler; her two great-grandchildren, JJ Hughes, and Indigo Hughes; and her sister, Paulette Maddox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Hughes; sister, Janet Williams; and brothers, Sayles Brown and Gary Brown.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

A Celebration of Life honoring Mrs. Sharon will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Bro. Tracy McMillen officiating. Graveside services will follow at Bruce Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Hughes, Chance Hughes, Trace Box, Carter Chandler, Jacob Long, and Will Jolly.

Trip Hughes will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
