Sandra Weaver Simmons

Tupelo--Sandra Alicia Weaver Simmons, a native Floridian, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit.  She was born October 6, 1945, in Panama City, Florida to Charles Melvin Weaver and Mae Gertrude Williams Weaver.  She was one of 15 children. In the 1950s, the family resided in a 19th century log structure affectionately known as “The Hillhouse”. Ironically, this same dwelling had previously been inhabited by who would turn out to be her future husband, James’ family in the 1930s. Sandra lived in several locations across the South, settling in Tupelo where she has resided the past 38 years.  Sandra worked at NMMC’s Central Billing Office as a receptionist, retiring after 17 years of service.  She was a dedicated member of East Main Church of Christ.  On May 19, 1963, she married the love of her life, James Edward Simmons, and they enjoyed 58 years together before his passing in 2021. Sandra was an avid reader and enjoyed watching and feeding the redbirds which brought her joy.   Always smiling, always projecting a positive spirit, Sandra was dearly loved by everyone who knew her.  Her calling in life was to raise a family and give them the best love and care.  The cherished moments spent with her family brought her joy, peace, and comfort.

Sandra leaves behind three children, Thomas E. Simmons (Jeannie) of Tishomingo, Alicia Smith (Joe), of Saltillo, and Amanda Dickinson (Jason) of Mantachie; six grandchildren, Hannah Stanley, Ashton Smith, Ben Stanley (Abby) Lexie Chism (Peyton), Britton Smith, and Jacie Dickinson; great-granddaughter, Maisie Faye Stanley; sisters, Charlene Kuykendall (Robert) and Janis Gough; her brother, John Douglas Weaver (Linda); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mae Weaver; her husband James; and 11 siblings.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024 at East Main Church of Christ with Ministers Barry Kennedy and Thomas Loyd officiating.  Burial will follow in Eggville Cemetery.  Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Friday at the church.   Pegues Funeral Directors has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Peyton Chism, Tim Davis, Kent Nichols, Donald Price, Britton Smith, and Ben Stanley.
