Robert “Bob” Phyfer
Mountain Brook, Alabama- Robert “Bob” Phyfer, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Born on May 21, 1949, to Mary Rachel Sandlin Phyfer and Robert Sysco Phyfer, Bob grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life and a boundless love for his family. His days were often marked by the comforting routines and small pleasures he cherished most — dining out for lunch or dinner at his favorite local spots, relaxing with television shows that brought him peace and joy, like animal programs and The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and staying connected to his roots through the pages of the New Albany Gazette.
Bob had a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and a quiet but unwavering devotion to those he loved. Nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his family, whether gathered around a table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s company. He often babysat his nephews and niece when they were young and found great joy in looking after his great-nieces and great-nephews — moments he cherished deeply. He will be remembered for his warmth, his steady presence, and the way he made even ordinary moments feel meaningful.
He is survived by his sisters, Anita Franklin of Mountain Brook, Mary Gillis of Mountain Brook, and Leah Sloshberg of Baltimore, Maryland; nephews, Hank Franklin and his wife, Michele, Ben Gillis, Mark Franklin and his wife, Mary Beth, Daniel Gillis, and Simeon Sloshberg and his wife, Margaret; niece, Laurie Franklin (Dwight Alexander); and numerous great- nieces and great-nephews whom he loved so very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sysco and Rachel Phyfer.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at New Albany City Cemetery. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
