Rick Haggard

Mooreville- SRO, Richard “Rick” Allen Haggard, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, age 52, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, in the line of duty. He was born on February 5, 1973, in Macon to Larry Wesley Haggard and Susie Ann Featherston Haggard.

Rick was a devoted public servant whose life was defined by service, integrity, and a deep love for others. He was a graduate of Sturgis High School and Mississippi College. During his college years, Rick worked at Kroger, where his strong work ethic and reliability were already evident. In 2003, he answered a calling that would shape the rest of his life by entering law enforcement.

Throughout his career, Rick proudly served his community in several roles, including Deputy, Animal Control Officer, and School Resource Officer. His work within local schools held special meaning to him, as he was deeply committed to protecting and supporting children and staff alike. Serving as a Deputy was a role he cherished, and he approached every responsibility with dedication, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others, no matter the circumstances.

On November 11, 2006, Rick married the love of his life, Jana. His family was the center of his world, and he spoke of his wife and their two daughters with pride and joy at every opportunity. Nothing brought Rick greater happiness than spending time with his family, whether in everyday moments or special gatherings.

Rick and his family were faithful and active members of Boguefala Baptist Church, where he lived out his values of faith, service, and kindness. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his servant’s heart, and the lasting impact he made on his family, his colleagues, and the community he so selflessly served.

He is survived by his wife, Jana Haggard of Mooreville; two daughters, Alex and Ava Haggard of Mooreville; mother, Susie Featherston Noble and step-father, Charlie of Pittsburg; mother-in-law, Kathy Marshall and her husband, Jim, of West Point; grandmother-in-law, Janice May of West Point; and brother-in-law, Mark Huffman of West Point.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Haggard; maternal grandparents, Buddy and Shirley Featherston; and grandfather-in-law, Ubes May.
