Richard "Terry" Walker

Tupelo — R ichard Terry Walker, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Page House of Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo.

Born on April 7, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Q.T. Walker and Dorothy White Walker, Terry grew up with a strong work ethic that would define his life. He graduated from Bartlett High School in 1962 and proudly served six years in the National Guard.

Following his military service, Terry spent eight years in Alaska working as a floor hand on an oil rig. He later returned to Lilburn, Georgia, where he built a long and successful career with The Home Depot until his retirement. Known for his dedication, adaptability, and willingness to tackle new challenges, Terry excelled in every role he took on.

In recent years, as his health declined, Terry moved to Tupelo to be closer to family. He looked forward to weekly visits from his sister and brother-in-law, often brightened by his favorite strawberry milkshake.

Terry is survived by his children: Richard Walker (Janine) of Georgia and Tracy Smith (Matt) of Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren Ben and Margo Smith; his sister Karen Coltharp (Ed) of Tupelo; his brother Mike Walker (Becky) of Arlington, Tennessee; and several nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Q.T. and Dorothy Walker, and his sister Marlys Ann Walker.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors. His brother-in-law, Ed Coltharp, will share family memories and reflections.
