Listen to Obituary

Rex Allen Helms (Pops), March 17, 1952 - August 4, 2025, went to be with Jesus surrounded by his loving family. Pops was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and an uncanny ability to fix just about anything. A talented and dedicated mechanic, he spent 37 years working at Independent Furniture Supply before retiring. His love for collecting antique cars, especially his Model A Ford, was matched only by the love he had for his growing family. He often said he wanted a dozen grandchildren—and he exceeded that dream with 14, along with one great-grandchild and another expected soon. He brought joy, laughter, and warmth to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Diane Helms; children, Holly Barnett, and husband, Kevin, Marc Helms and wife, Adrianne, Trista Rickman and husband, Tony, and Zach Helms and wife, Hannah; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; loving sister, Shirley Hutcheson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Heril “Homer” and Pauline Cooper Helms; infant child, Terrance Trinity; siblings, Billy Helms, Henderson Helms, and Brenda Cheeks.
