Saltillo - Ray Spencer, 82, died peacefully at home, on Monday, August 17, 2026. He was born on Sunday, July 23, 1944, to Price Spencer and Ovie Johnson Spencer.

To all who knew him, Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was blessed to share 42 years of marriage with the love of his life, Bridget Bass Spencer. Together, they built a life filled with countless memories that will be treasured for years to come.

For most of his life, Ray worked as a truck driver, and was the owner of Ray Spencer Trucking. Despite having only an eighth-grade education, Ray was a very successful man who owned many businesses. He was also a skilled carpenter and talented woodworker who took great pride in working with his hands. He loved creating beautiful and sturdy pieces, including China cabinets, and found joy in the labor that went into each one. Ray also enjoyed collecting knives, reflecting his appreciation for quality, detail and craftsmanship.

Ray was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes about the man he was. He was straightforward and lived according to his own convictions. His family often said that he “walked the walk,” never feeling the need to tell others who he was because he showed it through the way he lived his life. Ray stood firmly in his faith, worked hard, loved his family and remained steadfast in what he believed. Above all, Ray had a strong faith in God. His faith guided him throughout the years. He also was very dedicated to the church he loved, Hughes Chapel. He loved his family deeply, and his grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. He cherished every moment spent with all of his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bridget Bass Spencer; four children, Sharon Dalton (Jim) of Twin Lakes, Michigan, Kimberly Grace (Kevin) of Tupelo, Jason Spencer (Jamie) of Corinth, and Brian Spencer (Melynda) of Saltillo; one step-son, Bayward Boykin; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Cummings and Wanda Fain; and two brothers, Jimmy Spencer of Saltillo and Dennis Spencer of Fulton.

Ray was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Spencer; his parents; his brothers, Doug Spencer and Junior Spencer; and his sister, Della Holloway.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Lentz, Stephen Lentz, Kevin Grace, Ethan Adams and Billy Bass.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors.
