Martha Jane Mayer Hudson

Sherman-Martha Jane Mayer Hudson, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026. She was born on July 28, 1936, to the late Thurman Emery Mayer and Clarice Vawter Mayer, who lovingly raised her with strong values that carried her through a long and meaningful life.

Martha was a devoted member of Sherman Church of Christ, where her faith and kindness were evident to all who knew her. She found great joy in simple pleasures, especially crocheting and birdwatching, often delighting in the beauty of nature around her. She also loved to travel and was an avid sports fan, proudly cheering on her beloved Ole Miss teams.

Above all, Martha treasured her family and friends. She was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and genuinely kind nature. Her friendliness and grace left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Hudson (Kay); grandchildren, Alissa Hale (Chris), Jessica Kitchens (John), Jacqueline Smith (Brandon), Thomas Hudson, Ryan Shipley, Jerrilyn Swett (Philip), Tony Arellano, and Randy Mason (Brandy); great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Pharr (Ashton), Hayden Hale, Alex Kitchens, Knox Kitchens, Ian Smith, Corinne Smith, Micheal Smith, Hudsyn Mason, Nora Mason, and Royce Mason; niece, Annette Woods; nephews, Kenneth Grady and Bruce Grady; and daughter-in-law, Margaret Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T. E. and Clarice Mayer; husband, Thomas Hudson; sons, Richard Mark Hudson and Michael Hudson; and sister, Judith Crawford.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring the life of Mrs. Martha will be 3 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Bro. Joe Connell and Bro. Clay Foster, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Glenfield Cemetery in New Albany.
