Born on January 4, 1934, to Flossie Mae and Eldridge Robins, Margaret grew up with a deep love for family, tradition, and the land that shaped her—her beloved family farm, Mount Robins. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Margaret embodied grace, warmth, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
She was married to the love of her life, Clyde Porter, for nearly 66 wonderful years. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on faith, love, and shared values. They were each others’ worlds, with Clyde bringing her home decorating ideas vividly to life. Margaret was a large part of the heart of their home—always ready with a warm meal, a comforting word, and a welcoming smile. Her cooking was legendary, especially her tea cakes, and she found great joy in preparing meals that brought her family together.
Margaret had a lifelong passion for sewing, gardening, and decorating, and she had an eye for beauty in both the simple and the elegant. She cherished her family’s history, often sharing stories and memories that kept the legacy of Mount Robins alive for future generations.
A woman of deep faith, Margaret served as the church pianist at Endville Baptist Church in her youth. Her music lifted spirits and filled hearts, and she found immense joy in playing hymns that spoke to her soul. She also loved listening to Elvis Presley, whose songs were a soundtrack to her youth and remained a favorite throughout her life.
Margaret Porter will be remembered for her steadfast love, her elegance, and the way she made everyone feel at home. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and faith that will live on in all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Meg Johnson; grandchildren, Chloe Johnson Stubbs of Belden and Caleb Johnson of Memphis; and one great-grandchild, Naomi “Omi” Stubbs.
