Linda Hussey Mitchell

Mooreville – Linda Hussey Mitchell departed this life for her heavenly home on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at her residence in Mooreville after suffering with declining health. Linda was born on Wednesday, August 6, 1941, to the late Lawrence Lowery Hussey and Geneva Berryhill Hussey in Mooreville, where she lived her entire life.

She was a lifelong member of Andrews Chapel Church and trusted Jesus as her Lord and Savior from an early age. Linda married Joel Mitchell on April 26, 1957, and they were married for 52 years until Joel’s passing on October 9, 2009. Together they had two children Mike and Pam. Linda held various jobs throughout her life, including running a daycare, operating a dairy farm, working at Charmstep and Delta, and later retiring from Cooper Tire in 2000.

No matter where life took her, she worked hard, devoted herself to her family, and caring for others remained at the center of who she was. She was a deeply dedicated mother and grandmother who always placed family above all else. Yet her love and compassion extended far beyond family. Linda opened her heart and home to anyone in need. Her kindness also reached the many animals she cared for over the years. Countless stray dogs and cats found their way into her yard, only to discover the loving forever homes they deserved.

Linda was an excellent cook, talented seamstress, and also enjoyed writing poetry. One of the greatest joys of her life was becoming a grandmother, earning her the beloved name “Gran,” a name affectionately used by so many throughout the community.

She devoted herself to making life better for those around her. Sometimes that meant offering encouragement, and other times it meant delivering tough love and the admonishment to “straighten up”. You could always count on Gran to tell it like it was!

Linda is survived by her children, Mike Mitchell, and Pamela Mitchell Tharp (Kirk); four grandchildren, Elizabeth Mitchell Prewitt (Dudley), Laura Mitchell Enlow (Mark), Mitchell Tharp, and Michael Tharp; two great-grandchildren, Boone Enlow and Hank Enlow; three nephews, Rolon Barnes (Jan), Matthew Hussey, and Jonathan Mitchell (Molly); four nieces, Andrea Taylor (Joe), Amanda Fowler (Lee), Annaliesa Hussey, and Leahne Taylor (Chris); a host of great nieces and great nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Mitchell (Judy) and Harvey Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Mitchell; parents, Lawrence and Geneva Hussey; in-laws, D.C. and Hazel Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Teresa Mitchell; two brothers, Roger and Kenneth Hussey; two sisters-in-law, Ann Hussey and Naomi Barnes; and niece, Amber Hussey.

Pallbearers will be Mark Enlow, Dudley Prewitt, Mitchell Tharp, Michael Tharp, Herman Hussey Jr., Chris Hussey, Joe Taylor, and Rolon Barnes.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Linda will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Andrew’s Chapel Church with Bro. Lance Carpenter officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service Thursday. A graveside service will follow in Andrew’s Chapel Cemetery.
