Mooreville—Leona Plunkett passed away Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 65. She was born October 15, 1960 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of Marjorie Elizabeth Boyle Morgan. Raised in Missouri, she later moved to Tupelo in order to care for her aging mother and father-in-law William and Nellogean Plunkett. Leona knew the value of hard work and service to others. She spent most of her career as a nurse’s assistant for a nursing home. She later worked for Tyson Industries.
Leona had a special affinity for nature, giving special care to her plants and trees. She loved her orange tabby cat, Pumpkin, who seemed to protect her and give her comfort during her failing health. Leona’s greatest joy came from her role as Grandma.
She is survived by her two children, Crystal Plunkett and her husband, William Lowry, of Pontotoc and Eric Plunkett and his wife, Dana, of Mooreville; two grandchildren, Chellby and Gunner Plunkett; and her brother, Tommy Hicks.
Leona was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie; her step-father, Gene Morgan; two grandchildren, Emma Grace Plunkett and Hunter Dale Plunkett; and a sister, Renee Davis.
The family will celebrate Leona’s life and memory with a memorial service at their church at a later date. Pegues Funeral Directors has been honored to assist the family with arrangements.
