Tupelo – Lawrence Graham “Larry” Hancock passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Union County. Born in Tupelo on December 1, 1949, he was the son of the late Lawrence Doyce Hancock and Elaine Graham Hancock.
Larry grew up attending Harrisburg Baptist Church and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1968, where he distinguished himself in track and field. He later attended the University of Mississippi, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1972 while also being a proud member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. A devoted Ole Miss supporter, Larry especially loved Rebel football and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.
Throughout his life, Larry embraced a variety of business ventures. His work included ownership of Hancock Fabrics retail store, Warehouse Liquidators, and The Lee County Courier. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry found his greatest joy outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature with family and friends. He was a founding member of the Concordia Rod and Gun Club in Gunnison, where he created many treasured memories over the years.
Later in life, Larry moved to Texas, where he owned ranches in Laredo and Del Rio. There, he enjoyed hosting hunting groups and sharing his love for the outdoors with others. His hospitality, friendships, and adventurous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Faye Westmoreland, Gail Wilburn, Stephanie Pulliam, and Wanda Adams, for their compassion and faithful care. They also wish to thank Walker Powell, the sitters at A Caring Hand, and the staff of Landmark Lifestyles for the kindness and support they provided. Special appreciation is also given to Larry’s Tupelo High School Class of 1968 friends for their enduring friendship and love, especially Jimmy Ivy for his lifelong friendship and unwavering support.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Lackey (Brad), and Carrie Winter (Adam); son, Graham Hancock; grandchildren, Ella and Caleb McMahan, Addison Lackey, Chloe Adams (Davis), and Caroline Lackey; sisters, Doyce Deas (Bill), Lauren Patterson, and Janice Allen; the mother of his children, Helen Hancock; and his many beloved cousins.
