Mantachie – Charles Kenneth Russell, 74, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Born on July 28, 1951, in Lee County, he was the son of Hubert James Russell and Minnie Jessie Frederick Russell.

He owned and operated a delivery service truck for RPS–Roadway Package System for many years, faithfully delivering to Corinth and surrounding areas. He enjoyed watching races and football, listening to classic rock music and playing his vintage record collection, fishing, camping, and tinkering with his cars, especially his Cutlass and Mach 1. He never passed up a $20 scratch-off lottery ticket, always using the numbers 27 and 28 while searching for the money bag at the bottom. He loved getting Jer and Livi to help him put numbers in online to see if he had won. He loved to see his grandkids and great-grand’s spending time together. He enjoyed watching Jer and Chase put in his garden, spending time with his best friend, James Lee, his brother Dennis, Perry Wayne, trips to Tunica, and hanging out at Uncle Mitch’s shop. Dad was famous for his “Irish goodbyes,” something he even managed to do on his very last day here.

Most of all, he loved us and our mom until his very last breath. Ironically, he chose Memorial Day weekend and his twin granddaughters’ birthday to pass away. Anyone who knew our story knows our mom, Barbara Hernandez Russell, was tragically killed on Memorial Day, May 26, 1997. Because of that, this weekend will forever hold an even deeper meaning for our family.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Tim) Posey; son, Jeremy (Amber) Russell; grandsons, Chase (KaraBeth) Russell, Jaren (Mia) Johnson, Brenden Johnson, and Alex (Cayley) Russell; granddaughters, Olivia Johnson, Zoe Johnson, and Emma Kate Russell; great-grandchildren, Lynnox James, Kenneth Shane “KJ” Johnson, Lynlei Ann Louise Russell, Cayson Alexander Russell, and Luxx Toliver “Tollie” Russell; one great-grandson on the way, Jack Henry Johnson; sister, Brenda (Bill) Kipper; brothers-in-law, Larry (Sandy) Hernandez, Joe (Pam) Hernandez, Gill (Cathy) Hernandez, and Chris (Sherry) Hernandez; sisters-in-law, Diane (Ben) Deleon, Carol Williams, and Vicky (Bill) See; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hernandez Russell; brothers, Anthony Russell and James Dennis Russell; and sisters, Carolyn Webb Kimery, Betty Houston, and Shirley Ann Sanders and his best friend James Lee Andrews.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at Pegues, Saltillo.

A memorial service honoring the life of Kenneth will be at 3 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Joey Bates officiating.
