Judy Jones

January 11, 1949 — July 6, 2023

Saltillo- Judy Kathryn Scruggs Jones, 74, was born on January 11, 1949 in Tupelo. She was raised in the Church of Christ, starting at Skyline Church of Christ, and ending at East Main Church of Christ. She believed that Jesus died for our sins. She loved her mother, Grace Kathryn Bishop Potts with an innate deepness and had missed her tremendously until their joyous reunion on July 6, 2023, when they finally met again in a warm embrace. The love she had for her father, C.L. Scruggs, never faltered, and she never turned him away, seeing him out in the end. Her brother, Scotty Scruggs, was precious to her and their mother instilled deeply in them both the importance of that bond. She loved her daughters, Lisa West McNeece and Deanna West Anthony and she truly enjoyed them. She met her husband, Pat Jones, in 1985 and they embarked on a great adventure, marrying on October 21, 1994, and creating a beautiful life. Judy was blessed with six grandchildren, Lauren Mask, Avery McNeece, Taylor McNeece (Caroline), Zack Mask, Jill McNeece, and Emily Mask. She was dually blessed with four great grandchildren, Tahrleigh, Allison, Greyson, and Weston. She also held her nieces, Rhonda Scruggs, Kelly Scruggs King and her nephew, Jeff Scruggs, in high esteem and close to her heart.

Judy never met a stranger and always found the good in people. She knew just how good a chocolate milkshake could be for the soul. Patience wasn't her strongest suit when she was hungry, but she made up for that in so many other ways. She had a way of making you feel heard, understood, and validated that was like no other. She was a champion of the underdog. She would believe in you in when no one else did. Nana, as she was affectionately called, had a true appreciation for good books and music. She loved puzzles and she loved her family. She had been known to throw a pork chop or two out the back door when they didn't quite meet her standards, but she made the best scrambled eggs that would make you forget all about the pork chops. Her favorite color was purple, which is so befitting because purple represents trust and reliability--and she was someone you could always count on. She was one of a kind, with an infectious laugh and a fire inside that could never be put out. Judy leaves emptiness in her absence that will never be filled. We find peace and solace in knowing that we will see her again.
