Joyce W. Anderson
Joyce Williams Anderson, 93, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Avonlea Assisted Living Community after an extended illness. She was born April 28, 1922, in Lee County to Irma and Watson Anderson. She grew up in the Chesterville Community. Joyce graduated from Tupelo High School and Mississippi State College for Women. She was very active in college and was a member of Eta Sigma Phi, Alpha Chi Alpha and Kappa Pi. She liked to be active and in contact with people. Joyce worked for the United States Government after graduating from MSCW. She worked there until her retirement. She did not stay retired long. She helped her family around the house and helped her father with his business. Joyce was a hard worker and a very humble person. She was an active member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her church. She was always glad to see her church friends when they would come to visit her. Joyce enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and other sports shows on television. She loved her family and family dinners.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Irma and Watson Anderson; her brother, Captain Douglas P. Anderson; her sister, Tennie Marie Anderson.
She is survived by many cousins.
Joyce was blessed by her special caregivers Corrine Culver, Beth Clayton, Minnie Stone and Marsha Chen.
Services will 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Smith officiating. Burial will be at Tupelo Memorial Park. There will be no graveside services.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time.
