Joy Young

New Albany – Joy Lynn Kimery Young, 84, a beloved and hard-working wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, entered the gates of Heaven to meet her Savior Jesus Christ Monday, September 14, 2026. She was born on Sunday, April 12, 1942, in Canaan, Mississippi, to the late James Lloyd and Lucille Kimery.

Her life became a testament to her unwavering faith in Christ, and she had a deep love for her family and an appreciation for laughter. Joy dedicated 23 years to the Wurlitzer Piano Company and many years to the MCI Corporation. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed for many family members and friends throughout the years. She also was an excellent decorator and helped many with decorating their homes. If Joy saw it, she could do it!

She was the widow of Lanier “Pete” Young and is survived by her two daughters, Karen Johnson (John) and Gayle Pannell (Rodney); four grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Reverend Beth Roper (Davis), Victoria Lavanway (Greg), and Morgan Shoffner (Jeffrey); and five great-grandchildren, Avereigh, Anniston, Ansleigh, Riley, and Trace, and soon to be born Paisley Joy. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately knew her as Nana. 

Joy’s legacy will continue in the hearts of her family and friends. She touched so many with her constant love, kindness, generosity, and steadfast support. She will be profoundly missed by everyone who had the absolute privilege of knowing and loving her.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Pegues, Tupelo.

A celebration of life honoring Joy will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors, with Pastor Gary Gray officiating. A graveside service will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.
