Listen to Obituary

Joy M. Whitehead, 79, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. She was born on Tuesday, August 26, 1947, to James and Sydney Morgan in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She later went on to marry the love of her life, Billy Ray Whitehead, and they spent 42 wonderful years together until his passing.

She enjoyed many things throughout her life, including reading, collecting pottery, and cheering on her beloved Mississippi State Bulldogs in college football and basketball. In her younger years, she loved tailgating and enjoying the excitement of game days. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she cherished attending church and participating in Bible studies. Above all, her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She made it a priority to be there for every event, activity, and milestone in their lives, never wanting to miss a moment. In her later years, she found happiness in the simple pleasures of sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee, enjoying the quiet moments that made life special.

Joy is survived by her son, William Morgan Whitehead, and his wife, Molly; six grandchildren, Ian Mackin, Jordan Mackin (Aubrey), Kynzli Hall, Aspen Harris, Charlie Whitehead, and Cooper Whitehead; one great-grandchild, Elyse Kate Mackin, who is expected to arrive in December; and her best friend, Jean Manahan.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Whitehead, and her daughter, Alesha Whitehead Harris.
