Tupelo – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Alan Hancock, who left us peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the age of 76 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A man of generosity, humor, and unwavering loyalty, Joe’s presence brought joy, wisdom, and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joe lived life with intention and heart. He was a thoughtful and dependable friend—always there when someone needed a hand, a laugh, or just a good story. He had a special gift for connecting with others and a rare ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. His friendships were lifelong and deeply cherished, a reflection of the care and integrity he brought into every relationship.

Joe moved his young family to Tupelo in 1974, a town he’d never even visited, to sell products he knew nothing about on 100% commission amid a poor economy. Seemingly a losing strategy at first, his hard work eventually paid off. He built a remarkable career in sales, earning multiple awards along the way. He also founded Yummy Yogurt, a successful business and Tupelo staple for many years. It wasn’t just his talent that made him successful, though, it was his honesty, work ethic, and the respect he showed to every client and colleague.

Outside his career, Joe’s passions painted a vivid picture of the man he was. He loved music that stirred the soul, movies that made you think or laugh, and the beauty of the outdoors. Whether he was playing or watching tennis, relaxing outside, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, Joe found joy in life’s simple pleasures.

He was a keeper of family traditions and a loving patriarch who instilled the values of hard work and integrity in his children. Joe had a natural way of passing down life lessons—often through stories, always with heart—and he continued to share that wisdom with his grandchildren, who hung on his every word and punchline. Most of all, he loved his wife Phyllis deeply, considering her his greatest treasure.

His sense of humor was sharp, dry, and always well-timed. He had a knack for finding humor in the everyday, and his laughter—often sparked by a classic Rodney Dangerfield joke—was as memorable as it was contagious.

Joe leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lessons that will echo for generations. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter, Melanie; son, Justin; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

In honoring Joe’s life, we celebrate a man who gave so much of himself to others. He taught us to show up for people, to never stop laughing, and to always lead with kindness. Though he is no longer with us, the impact of his life will never fade.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Friday, September 26, 2025, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring the life of Joe will be 3 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Bro. Matt Powell, Bro. Gayle Alexander, and Mr. Justin Hancock officiating.
