John Palmer

July 5, 1928 — November 29, 2016

John Palmer Saltillo- John Lamar Palmer 88, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A Saltillo native, he was born July 5, 1928, to Lester Palmer and Gertie Brock Palmer. John was a member of the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean conflict. After serving in the Army, John returned home to Saltillo and began a career as a cattle farmer and carpenter. In his free time, John enjoyed to walk with his loving dog, Oliver. He was a member at First Methodist Church, Saltillo. He is survived by his sister, Ann Palmer of Saltillo; brother in law, William "Smokey" Freeman; niece, Angela Crafton (Terry) of Saltillo; nephew, Eric Freeman (Marie) of Albertville, Alabama; great-niece, Alexis Crafton and special friend, Jimmy White. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gatlin Palmer and sister, Mary Freeman. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with military honors. Rev. Tim Green will be officiating and burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Methodist Church, Saltillo 737 Old Hwy 45 Saltillo, MS Visitation will be 1 p.m. to service time at Saltillo Funeral Home.
