John “J.N.” Newton Witcher, Jr.
Saltillo – John “J.N.” Newton Witcher, Jr., age 93, passed away at Sanctuary Hospice House on Sunday, August 24, 2025. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend, J.N. was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served honorably during the Korean War. His commitment to his country was only matched by his love for the outdoors and his devotion to spending time with family and friends.
He was born on December 15, 1931, to the late John Newton Witcher, Sr. and Mrytle Witcher. Throughout his life, he embraced a deep passion for nature. Whether hunting in the woods or fishing by the lake, J.N. found peace and joy in the simplicity of the outdoors. His quiet moments spent in nature were as cherished as the time he spent with those closest to him.
In addition to his service in the Navy, J.N. was a man of strong values who believed in the importance of hard work and loyalty. He was a devoted friend, always ready to lend a hand, share a story, or spend an afternoon in good company.
He is survived by his children, Ricky Witcher and wife, Jacque, Rusty Witcher and wife, Amber, Robby Witcher and wife, Sonya; four grandchildren, Zack Witcher and wife, Denise, Josh Witcher, Jonathan McNutt and wife, Kristen, Kelly Tate and husband, Dustin; one great-granddaughter, Presley Witcher; and a host of nieces and nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Kelso; twin sister, Janie Witcher; twin brothers, Dan Witcher and Don Witcher; sisters, Ann Hall and Katherine Houston; brother, Henry Witcher; daughter-in-laws, Tina Witcher and Gail Witcher; and the mother of his children, Betty Witcher.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Pegues, Saltillo.
Services honoring the life of J.N. will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Saltillo Chapel of Pegues Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Miller officiating. Graveside services will follow at Zion Presbyterian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sanctuary Hospice House.
