FULTONJoan Elaine Morris, 66, died December 12, 2005, at her home after an extended illness. She was born March 14, 1939, to the late Elmer Atkins and Martha Evans Atkins Perkins in Zion, IL and moved to Fulton in 1964. She was an avid gardener and loved to read, knit, and cook for her family. She worked as a housewife and mother, her greatest joy in life being the time she spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 pm at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Terry Ledbetter and Jackie Gray officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Billy G. Morris; three daughters, Leslie McDonald and husband Phillip of Plantersville; Star Poppelreiter of Saltillo; and Mary Lynn Pierce and husband Jerry, of Fulton; one son, Michael G. Morris and wife, Renee, of Tupelo; one sister, Margaret Cox of Lawrenceville, GA; three brothers, Virgil Atkins of Long Beach, Calif.; Bill Hammond, of Canton, GA; and Roy Atkins of RI; nine grandchildren, James Poteet of Fulton; Michael Simmons of Saltillo; Scotty Poteet of Fulton; Jonethan Morris of Tupelo; Justin Sullivan of Saltillo, and Jeremy Morris of Tupelo; three granddaughters, Jordan Poppelreiter of Saltillo; Selena Nicole Pierce; and Dakota Cheyenne Pierce both of Fulton; and two great-grandchildren.

Her grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bert Atkins; her sister, Mary Lynn Hogsed; her son-in-law, George Poppelreiter; and two brothers-in-law, Renon "Cotton Morris and Chelsae Morris.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m.
