Jerry Loden

Jerry Loden, 92, passed away on Sunday, August 30 , 2026, in the comfort of his Palmetto home, with his family by his side. He was born on November 25, 1933, in Lee County, to his parents, Marvin and Erin Loden.

Jerry grew up in Tupelo, and that is where he stayed and would later raise his own family. He was a longstanding member of Bissell Baptist Church, from childhood into adulthood. He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1952 and went straight to work to support his family. Jerry and his wife Betty married on May 29, 1952, soon after he graduated. They raised their two children together on a cattle farm in Palmetto. During the 60’s and 70’s, he was a cattle order buyer for Swift Packing Company and Mid-South Packers of Tupelo. He worked for many years at the postal service, eventually retiring and then continuing with his cattle to support his family. He began his work with cattle in his 20’s and continued, with the help of his family and friends. He was a true cattleman until his very last day.

Jerry was known for his love of the outdoors, including hunting and fishing. He started hunting at Bodka Valley in 1953, becoming a member at 21 years old and later holding a seat as President of Bodka Valley Hunting Club for 25 years. His passions have left a lasting imprint, continuing through the next three generations. All the memories made a field that his family and friends will cherish forever.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 74 years, Betty Loden; his daughter, Norma Larkin (David) of Lakeland, Florida; son Ricky Loden (Beth) of Tupelo; grandsons, Shane Stafford (Emily) of Pontotoc, Justin Loden (Kirsten) of Guntown; and one granddaughter, Madison Caver (Walker) of Tupelo; his great grands include John Howard, Hank, Sam, Kyleigh, Kinsley, Chloe, Tipton, and Charlee; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Marvin Loden, mother Erin Loden Foster, stepfather Billy Foster, and brother Don Loden.

As a man of few words, Jerry requested to have no formal visitation or service. Pegues Funeral Directors has assisted the family with arrangements.

The family wants to thank NMHS staff for overseeing all recent care. A special thank you to Home Health nurse Tonya whom he favored; and Hospice nurse, Sharon and social worker, Beth, for being with the family on the day of his passing.
