Jennifer Pittman Young
Jennifer Lynn Pittman Young, age 56, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 12, 1969, in Jackson, Mississippi, to John B. Pittman and Sherry Lynn Merchent Pittman. A 1987 graduate of Tupelo High School, Jennifer went on to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College in Booneville and later completed her degree in Elementary Education through Phoenix University.
Jennifer dedicated her career to education and made a lasting impact as an Art Teacher at Ashland Elementary School in the Benton County School District. In addition to teaching, she served as the school’s Media Specialist, Testing Coordinator, and BETA Club Sponsor. Her passion for education and mentorship was especially evident in her work with her beloved BETA Club students—fundraising, organizing service projects, and traveling with them to competitions were among her greatest joys.
Known for her strong will and vibrant spirit, Jennifer had a deep appreciation for live music, a love for nurturing her plants, and a special bond with her cherished cat, Ruby. Her legacy is one of creativity, dedication, and heartfelt service to her students and community.
Jennifer is survived by her daughter, Zilpha “Z” Rebekah Young of Tupelo; sister, Samantha Pittman Cox (David) of Tupelo; brothers, Jonathan A. Pittman (April), and Justin D. Pittman both of Tupelo; niece, Sunshine Pittman of Tupelo; nephews, John David Cox (Sadie), and Nathan T. Cox both of Tupelo; and great-nephews, Henry and Harvey Cox.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John B. and Sherry Lynn Merchant Pittman; and her grandparents, T.J. and Donis Pittman, and R.D. and Zilpha Merchant.
