Jean Pittman

Catherine Jean Pittman, 90, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Baptist Hospital in Oxford. She was born November 4, 1932 in North Augusta, South Caroline to Emery Platt-Howard Ruland and Mildred Kennedy Ruland. Jean was the wife of James H. Pittman and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. Jean spent most of her adult life as a homemaker, taking care of the family she adored. After the kids were grown, she worked as a veterinary technician, which also provided much joy as an animal lover. She had many pets over the years and her dog, Nuggett, was a constant companion. Jean was a faithful member of Harrisburg Baptist Church until her health began to decline.
Survivors include her two children, Emery Pittman of Tupelo and Bonnie Pittman of Booneville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 12 until 2 p.m. Tuesday May 20, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo. A service honoring Jean’s memory will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. David Smith officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Booneville Second Chance Animal Sanctuary, 605 Cherry Street, Booneville, MS 38829.
