Tupelo - Grover Morris, 79, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness. He was born August 8, 1931, in Itawamba County to J.J. and Mary Frances Langley Morris. He worked for Pepsi Cola Bottling Works for 35 years. A longtime resident of Lee County and Shannon, he was the widower of Shirley Jane Prestage Morris who died July 26, 1994. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, yard work, listening to gospel music, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Richmond Pentecostal Church.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Richmond Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ricky Pierce, Rev. Ben Raper and Rev. John McAllister officiating. Burial will be in Keys Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Sherry Keeton of Saltillo; one son, Ricky Morris (Debra) of Shannon; two sisters, Flora Fennell of Mooreville and Cora Pruitt of Golden; six grandchildren, April Morris of Decatur, Ala., David Morris of Itawamba County, Delisha Mooney of Mantachie, Kristie Keeton of Tupelo, Jonathan Keeton and Jennifer Keeton, both of Saltillo; five great-grandchildren, Brayden Morris, Camden Morris, Kenna Morris, all of Itawamba County, Alex Lee and Zach Lee of Mantachie; one step-great-granddaughter, Hallie Brooke Mooney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley Jane Prestage Morris; two sisters, Pauline Martin and Arine Whitehead; two brothers, Pruitt Morris and Nelson Morris; and one great-grandaughter, Layla Morris.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mooney, Danny Hester, Tony Martin, Doyle Martin, Ricky Bishop and Gary Bishop
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
