GEORGE BOGARDUS, JR.
George Dorman Bogardus, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at North Mississippi Medical Center on August 28, 2025.
Born in Buffalo, New York, on January 3, 1943, to George D. Bogardus, Sr. and Gertrude Lola Reynolds, George’s life was marked by honor, devotion, and service. After attending American University, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and continued his dedication to country as a member of the Mississippi National Guard until his retirement.
In 1976, George and his family relocated to Tupelo, Mississippi, where he worked as a Supervisor at Tecumseh Products and later at the Walmart Distribution Center in New Albany. Beyond his career, he was deeply devoted to community service and his fellow veterans. A long-time member of American Legion Post #49, George was known for his generosity, fellowship, and commitment to helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas Bogardus, and his wife Mary Bogardus. He is survived by his sister, Linda Bogardus of Plantersville, MS; daughters, Heather Wages (Eric) and Tamara Godbold (Gerald) of Union County, MS; and four grandchildren, Grayson (25), Weston (24), Waylen (15), and Griffen (14). He was known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy and constant source of pride.
A Memorial Service will be 9 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2025, at the American Legion Post #49 in Tupelo, MS, with interment at Corinth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the CREATE Foundation, care of the American Legion Post 49 Fund, P.O. Box 1053, Tupelo, MS, 38802.
