Tupelo

Gwendolyn Gale Pinion, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior on December 17, 2023 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was a hero in the eyes of her friends and family, having courageously fought pancreatic cancer to the very end.  The daughter of Ralph and Theomae Hargrove, she was born August 12, 1947 in Wisner, Louisiana and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. Gale attended Murrah High School and Hinds Junior College where she was a Hinds Hi-Stepper and a Beauty. Beginning her career as a computer programmer for the City of Jackson, over the next 20 years she worked for Ergon Inc, Desoto Inc, and McRaes/Saks Inc as a Programmer Analyst. In 1999 she moved to Tupelo to be close to her daughter and was employed by North Mississippi Medical Center as a Senior Systems Specialist until her retirement. During retirement Gale loved to travel with her friends and family and make pottery in support of the Salvation Army of Tupelo Empty Bowls Luncheon Fundraiser. She valued her friendships made through pottery, her First Baptist of Tupelo Sunday School Class and the special ladies in her Lunch Bunch Group.

Gale was a loving mother to her only daughter, JJ and adored her son in law and his family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy which she enjoyed watching grow up and was always in attendance of their sports and academic events. She was especially excited about her new great granddaughter Lilly.

Along with her parents the late Ralph and Theomae Hargrove, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Hargrove, Jr.; a brother in law, David Bass and a niece, Torri White.

Gale leaves behind her daughter, Jennifer (JJ) Thornton and her husband Barry; grandsons, Lt. Grant Thornton, Lt. Reed Thornton and his wife Brittany; granddaughter, Blair Thornton; great-granddaughter, Lillian Thornton; sisters, Peggy Fedrick, Betty Mobley and her husband Sam, Theomae Bass; brother Paul Hargrove and his wife Cindy; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
