FRANCES McINTOSH CARPENTER Mooreville - Frances McIntosh Carpenter, 94, returned to her heavenly home on November 26, 2016. Mrs. Carpenter was born to George W. McIntosh and Alma Richardson McIntosh in Itawamba County on June 22, 1922. When Mrs. Carpenter was two years old, the family moved to Mooreville. She attended schools in Mooreville and then graduated from Tupelo High School in 1940. Mrs. Carpenter attended Mississippi Southern College, now known as University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg. She graduated with honors in 1943 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Science and Home Economics. Mrs. Carpenter taught at Gloster High School, Artisia High School and Walnut High School between 1943 and 1948. She then went back to school at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and pursued a Master’s Degree in Child Development and Education. In June of 1950, she began working for the Social Services Division of the Mississippi Department of Human Services in Lee County. Mrs. Carpenter especially enjoyed working on behalf of neglected, abused children and families in the foster system. Mrs. Carpenter retired June 30, 2000 with over 50 years with the State of Mississippi. Mrs. Carpenter married the late William C. "Sumner" Carpenter of Bruce and Vance, Mississippi. They had one son, William David Carpenter. He and his wife, Jane, live in Flora. Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter belonged to Boguefala Baptist Church in Mooreville. Together they were joint treasurers of the church for 45 years. Visitation will be from 4:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November, 30, 2016, at Boguefala Baptist Church with Rev. David Perry and Rev. Royce Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Boguefala Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Gage Jones, Cliff Jones, Eric Carpenter, Bo Payne, Tim Mitchell, Dean Dempsey and James Coleman. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by her son, David and his wife Jane; two grandsons, Gage Jones (Sarah) of Brandon and Cliff Jones (Casey) of Nashville, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Tripp Payne and Vivian Grace Jones. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents; husband; half-brothers, Allen McIntosh (Gertrude) and Sherman McIntosh (Tuanah); half-sisters, Addie McIntosh Knight (Haliday), Anna McIntosh Stephens (Talbert) and Ruby McIntosh.
