Charles Johnson
Myrtle- Charles Carter Johnson, Jr. was born March 6, 1954, in Jackson, Mississippi. He died on November 13, 2025.
Charlie was a successful Life Support Technician for Taylor Diving for many years which took him all over the world and led to many adventures. After his diving career he went into the oilfield chemical business in California. He lived for many years in Bakersfield, CA. He was an avid Saints fan and loved to brag about the time he went to the Super Bowl to see them and got his picture in the Saints commemorative magazine dressed in full black and gold regalia. He also loved Nascar and spent many seasons pushing around his frozen margarita cart making merry between races. Above these pursuits his fondest love and weakness was for cats. Charlie loved cats and always took in more strays than he knew what to do with. He loved them all and often named them after Saints themes including “Whodat” and “Breezy”. Charlie lived his last few years back in Mississippi. He will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
Charlie’s family would like to thank Ashley and Bridget with Gentiva Hospice and his care team at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County for the great care they gave Charlie in his last days. We would also like to thank Say Smith for rescuing and placing all of Charlie’s cats in new homes.
Charlie is survived by his brother, Jeff (Connie) Johnson; sisters, DeeDee Johnson and Jennifer (Yam) Tolan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrna Elizabeth Johnson (Slocum); father, Charles Carter Johnson, Sr.; and brother, David Johnson.
A memorial service in honor of Mr. Charlie Johnson will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Verona City Cemetery.
