Charles T. Lee

Tupelo- Charles Thomas Lee, 95, entered the gates of heaven at Sanctuary Hospice House on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Charles was born March 12, 1928, in Lee County to Thomas Jefferson “Buddy” Lee and Velma Phillips Lee. At the age of 21, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and in the years that followed, he and his family were serving in a local church. Charles was a long-time member of East Height Baptist Church, Tupelo, where he served in various ministries of the church until the decline of his health. He enjoyed gardening, RVing, traveling, and spending time with family which was his greatest joy. As part of Campers on Mission he helped build churches and pastor’s homes in Mexico and all across the United States, including Alaska; and assisted with the cleanup and rebuilding after disasters such as Hurricane Katrina. He was also a member of the Tombigbee Indians Good Sam’s Club. Most of his life Charles worked as a traveling salesman in the food industry which suited his jolly personality and love of people. In 1977, he and his business partner, Dan Webb, opened the doors of L&W Cash Register where he worked until his retirement in 1990.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of three years, Marie T. Price Lee of Tupelo; son, Paul Lee (Deborah) of Brandon; daughters, Sandra McClellan (Lawson) of Guntown, and Gayla Allen of Tupelo; and stepdaughter, Janet Knight of Tupelo; grandchildren, Cathy Spees Oglesby (Mike) of Mobile, Alabama, Shane Spees (Parker) of Tupelo, Andrea Allen of Tupelo, Kim Allen Powell of Mooreville, Michelle Allen Lansdell of Tupelo, P. J. Lee of Jackson, and Kristen Lee King (Jehu) of New Braunfels, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Lee of Columbus; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; three brothers; his first wife of 72 years, Naomi Parmer Lee; and sons-in-law, Mike Spees and Joe Allen.
