Charles
Argo
February 17, 1934 – April 20, 2026
Charles Aubrey Argo, affectionately known as “Pa”, 92, of Tupelo, Mississippi, passed away on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on February 17, 1934, in Trenton, Tennessee, to Wade McKinley Argo and Effie Bell Reed. His most cherished childhood memories were spent with his brother, Wayne, and his beloved grandmother, Tennie.
After playing basketball and graduating from Spring Hill High School, Charles served his country in the United States Army for five years, including a tour in Europe. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Mickie, and they moved to Chicago, where their daughter, Valerie, was born. While in Chicago, he worked at Bell & Howell and co-owned the Bambi Lounge with his stepbrother, Robert. Later, he returned to Mississippi, settling in Mantachie to be closer to family. He worked at Super Sagless until his retirement in 1995.
For the last thirty years of his life in Tupelo, Charles devoted himself fully to his family. He took special joy in caring for his granddaughter, Sami, picking her up from school each day and helping raise her. He found comfort in reading his Bible daily and enjoyed watching old Westerns, Judge Judy, and wrestling.
Charles also served his community as president of the Stonegate Homeowners Association for many years, working to maintain the safety and standards of his neighborhood.
Above all, Charles was a man of deep faith. He came to know the Lord through the preaching of Jimmy Swaggart and lived his life with Christ at the center. A devoted member of Word of Life Church in Tupelo, he served as both an elder and an usher, faithfully greeting others each Sunday morning. Known to many as Brother Argo, he was instrumental in supporting the church’s growth, including leading fundraising efforts such as the annual Resurrection Seed Offering every Easter season.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mickie Argo; his daughter, Valerie Delgadillo (Albert); his granddaughter, Sami Whitwell (Sam Jones); and his great-granddaughter, Olivia Emerson Jones. He is also survived by extended family in Arkansas and Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Tennie Melissa; his parents, Wade Argo and Effie Reed; his brother, Wayne Argo; his half-siblings, Sarah Ann, Sharon, Susie, and Bill; his step-siblings, Charles, Robert, and Sonny; and his son-in-law, Earl Whitwell.
He will be remembered as a godly man with a remarkably generous heart and a servant’s spirit.
A private graveside service will be held for the family. Pegues Funeral Directors have been entrusted with the care of Mr. Charles’ arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Word of Life Church in Tupelo, specifically for the Resurrection Seed Offering.
Pa will be deeply missed and forever remembered. He now rests in the arms of his Savior. Psalm 23:6.
