Tupelo – Brenda Joyce Carter, 77, passed away peacefully Monday, February 2, 2026, at the Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo. She was born April 5, 1948, to the late James Thomas Ellis and Maudi Beatrice Gray Ellis.
Brenda was a woman of remarkable spirit, energetic, feisty, and full of life. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially her beloved grandchildren who were the light of her world. She delighted in the simple joys of life and found happiness in activities like getting all dolled up in her best western attire and going dancing, where her bright personality and infectious smile were always easy to see.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and a natural gift for lifting the spirits of those around her with her funny stories and witty remarks. She had a way of turning moments into treasured memories. Her presence brought warmth, joy, and a sense of ease to everyone she met, and you would rarely catch her without her signature red nails and lipstick, a simple touch that perfectly reflected her confidence, style, and vibrant spirit.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Her humor, her kindness, and the many joyful moments she created will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her children, Michael Carter and Enchantra “Tootie” Carter (Desiree Walker); grandchildren, Darren Hitchcock, Michael Lee Carter, Jaylon Carter, Jaycee Hawkes, Jaycob Hawkes, Jeremy Carter, Jason Carter, and Sharon Carter Bascom; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Carter Tutor, Hayden Hitchcock, Kaleb Carter, Leiam Carter, Makayla Aline, Kayleigh Thrasher, Michael Austin Carter, Matthew Carter, Maiken Carter, and Aubreigh Carter; sister, Helen McClarty (Billy Wayne McClarty); and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Gerald Ray Carter; parents; daughter Angelique Carter; great-grandsons, Cayson Carter, and Kole Ray Carter; and a special friend, Charles Brazeal.
Visitation will be from 11 am until service time Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Pegues, Tupelo.
