Billy D. Jordan

May 4, 1932 — October 5, 2023

Verona- Billy Douglas Jordan, 91, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born May 4, 1932, in Isola, to Willie E. and Nora Mae Caraway Jordan.

Billy’s journey began in the Delta, where he attended and graduated from Moorehead High School. Billy married the love of his life, the late Mary Elizabeth Froman Jordan, with whom he shared 51 beautiful years together until the time of her passing.

He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant. His years of military service were marked by dedication and valor. Upon retiring from the Air Force, Billy embarked on a new chapter of his life, dedicating over 30 years of his time and expertise to the Army Surplus in Tupelo, until his well-deserved retirement.

Billy was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary, where he found camaraderie and fulfillment through his shared experiences with fellow veterans. One of Billy’s favorite pastimes was playing cards with friends. These moments of laughter and friendly competition were a source of joy for him and will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of joining him at the card table. Anyone who knew Billy will smile as they remember his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit as he pulled a prank or cracked a joke.

Billy leaves behind his daughter, Janet Riggan and her husband, Ronnie, of Smithville; four grandchildren, Michael Jordan (Danica), Jeffrey Riggan (Brandi), Christopher Jordan (Brandy), Julie Dabbs (Mike); eight great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Ann Morgan Free of Diamondhead; and host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Billy Don Jordan, three sisters, Dorothy Jean Marcellus, Betty Sue Sumrall and Lou Ella “Susie” Gray; and two brothers, Jimmy Franklin Jordan and John Earl Jordan, Sr.
