Saltillo - Billy M. Griffin, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his residence in Saltillo after an extended illness. A Calhoun City native, he was born May 12, 1931, to the late Roy and Irene Crawford Griffin. He was a former employee of the Lake County Sheriff's Department in Waukegan, Ill. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Services will be 3 p.m. today at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jimmy Sockwell officiating. Burial will be in Prentiss Memorial Gardens.


Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martha Griffin of Saltillo; one daughter, Debra Pickett and husband, Jimmy, of Walls; two sons, William M. Griffin of Lake Forrest, Ill., and Steve Griffin of Saltillo; three sisters, Dorothy Volpentesa of Florida, and Betty Pike and Helen Reynolds, both of Mississippi; two grandchildren, Spring and Jimmy D. Pickett; three great-grandchildren, Lacey, Kaycee and Juan Pickett.


Pallbearers will be Robert Taylor, Sammy Davis, and Bryon, Ronnie and Todd Hodge.


Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time today at the Saltillo Funeral Home.
