Saltillo—Betty Sue Bass passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after a lengthy illness. She was 81 years old. Longtime resident of Saltillo, Betty Sue was born December 18, 1943, to the Rev. Cecil Bass and Mary Kathryn McCollum Bass. For 15 years, she worked at Daybrite Lighting, serving in many areas and capacities, always willing to help those around her with an encouraging smile. However, her greatest joy and accomplishment came from serving her family and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At family gatherings, Betty Sue made sure each child had a place at her table, requiring that all adults wait until the children’s plates were fixed instead of the other way around. A woman of deep abiding faith, she could be found with her Bible open in her lap or watching her favorite preachers on television. Until her health began to fail, she was a dedicated member of Baldwyn’s First Baptist Church. Her family remembers her delicious meals prepared with love and beautiful sewing projects.
Betty Sue leaves behind six children, Angela Scott and her husband, Matt, of Tupelo, William Calcote and wife, Noi, of Saltillo, Lisa Witherspoon and her husband, Glen, of Saltillo, Terri Bass and husband, Bill, of Saltillo, Katherine Ipock and her husband, Todd, of Dorsey, and Mandy Robbins and fiancé, Jason Gibbons, of Saltillo; 13 grandchildren, Brandie, Shelbie, Kevin, Katherine, Wyatt, Willa, Chad, Keith Lee, Daniel, Melanie, Chandler, Mark and Anna; 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lottie, Jeanette, and Joyce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation will be 10 until 12 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2025, at Pegues, Saltillo.
Services will be 12 p.m. Friday with Bro. John Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wyatt Calcote, Keith Bass, Daniel Bass, Mark Scruggs, Peyton Humble, and Paxton Humble.
