Betty Baker Thornton

October 18, 1937 — March 28, 2011

Blue Springs Betty Fay Baker Thornton, 73, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at her home after an extended illness. She was born in the Friendship Community on October 18, 1937 to Robert and Ruby Putt. She was raised and lived in the Lee and Union County area most of her life. She attended school at the Houston Community School near Kirkville. Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was happy spending every minute of every day with them. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Martin Jacks officiating. Burial will be in Camp Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of almost 34 years, Gerald Thornton of Blue Springs; four sons, Wayne Baker of Plantersville, David Baker (Donna) of Guntown, Joel Baker of Tupelo, Barry Baker of Blue Springs; four daughters, Leasha Segars of Saltillo, Sonja Nichols (Chad) of Blue Springs, Tammy Thornton of Texas, Deanna Thornton of Blue Springs; a mother-in-law, Hazel Thornton of Blue Springs; a sister, Margaret Grissom (Wendell) of Saltillo; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bill Baker Croft of Blue Springs; two brothers, Billy Ray Putt of Baldwyn and Robert Allen Putt of Guntown; her father-in-law, Raymond Thornton of Blue Springs.

Pallbearers will be Mac Croft, Zane Treadaway, Logan Treadaway, John Michael Segars, Eric Baker and Wayne Baker.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at The Saltillo Chapel
