Tupelo- Mr. Shelby L. Reed Jr., 83 years, passed away at his home on Thursday, September, 21. Mr. Reed was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to Shelby Leland Reed and Gladys Ray Reed on
December 16, 1933.  He graduated from Tupelo High School in 1951 and attended the University of Mississippi and Marion Military Institute.  Mr. Reed served in the United States army from 1955-1957, spending 19 months in Baumholder, Germany at which time he traveled to Switzerland, Paris and other places of interest. After returning from the service, he was employed by Reed Manufacturing Co where he retired in 1998 after 45 years.  He married Sonya Haynes on December 1, 1957 and they were married for 59 years.  Mr. Reed was a member of First United Methodist Church.  He was a loving father and grandfather, known as "Papa" and "Bobs" to his grandchildren.  His favorite times were spent at the beach and the pool with his family.  In his younger years, he enjoyed golf, fishing and reading.  He had a great sense of humor and could bring laughter to everyone, even under the most difficult of circumstances.  He was so greatly loved by his family.

Visitation will be held 10 until 11 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Private graveside services will be held at Tupelo Memorial Park on Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother-in-law, Tommy Cobb; sister-in-law, Joan Haynes Kendall and in-laws, Candler E. Haynes and Elizabeth McKenzie Haynes.

He leaves behind his wife, Sonya; children, Shelby L. Reed III (Ellen) of Tupelo, Ann Neuhaus (Scott) of Tupelo and Robin Neuhaus (Troy) of Tupelo; grandsons, Morgan Weatherford of CA, Madison Weatherford, McKenzie Weatherford, Bo Reed, Zeke Neuhaus and granddaughters, Anna Miles (Travis), Allye Neuhaus  all of Tupelo and step-grandchildren, Kathryn Neuhaus of Birmingham and Jake Neuhaus of Memphis; brother, Ray Reed (Janice) and sister-in-law, Beverly Cobb of Roswell, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
