Obituary for Raymond Montgomery Saltillo - Raymond Witt Montgomery, 90, died Monday, October 10, 2011, at his residence. A native of Waldo, Ark., he was born September 29, 1921. He attended Chicago University and numerous other schools specializing in avionics engineering. He served in the US Air Force during World War II and worked over 30 years for the Civil Service as a radar and avionics instructor at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi until his retirement. After his retirement, he moved to the Birmingham Ridge Community where he has resided since that time. He was married to Gwen Montgomery who preceded him in death in 1998. He was a member of Saltillo United Methodist Church. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery. Survivors include his great-nephew and caregiver, Keith Yates of Saltillo; his nephews, Rondald Yates of Ripley, Tenn., Tim Yates of Saltillo, Jimmy Montgomery of Texas, Richard Montgomery of North Carolina, and Robert Montgomery of Virginia; his niece, Deborah Oaks of Saltillo; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Yates of Saltillo and Martina Montgomery of Alexandria, La.; numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their thanks to the hospice nurses who helped make his final days more comfortable.
