Ralph Edward Banes, 81, died Tuesday, December 9, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. A native of Lee County, he was born March 10, 1939 to Wayne Banes, Sr. and Beatrice Banes and was a graduate of Mooreville High School. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Army and dedicated the next four years to serving his country. He later worked with MW trucking and purchased a country grocery store, R & R Grocery in Mooreville, which he owned and operated for many years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and listening to gospel music; spending time outside fishing and working in his garden; and tinkering and fixing things, especially his tractor. He grew up in Andrews Chapel Church and will be laid to rest in their cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Carol Reed of Mooreville; five children, Steve Posey of Mooreville, Bobby Posey of Mooreville, Anitta McCullough of Baldwyn, Tonya Poe and her husband, Robert of East Union and Nancy Hall of Mooreville; nine grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; two brothers; and a sister.
Visitation will be 2:30 p.m. until service time Saturday, December 12, 2020 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his life will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Neal Ramage officiating. Burial will follow in Andrews Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bubba Gilmore, Thomas Waters, Timothy Page, Felicia Carnell, Ryan Denton, Hunter Page, Sabastian Thackett and Dillon Horn.
