Obituary for Nona W. Houston Asheville, N.C. - Nona Wayne Houston, 87, died Monday, October 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Campus, Mission Hospitals in North Carolina. A Tupelo native and longtime resident, she was born August 25, 1924, to R.A. and Vernie Lessel Kitchen. She graduated from Tupelo High School and married Roy Houston January 4, 1944. She was employed for 25 years at Central Service Association and had previously worked six years for Ladies Wearhouse. She was currently a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church in Asheville and was a former member of East Heights Baptist Church. Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at Lee Memorial Park with Rev. Kermit Brann officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Roy Houston, Sr. of Asheville, N. C.; one son, The Rev. Roy Houston, Jr. (Dana) of Candler, N.C.; two grandchildren, Lisa Holland and Lori Halyburton; two great-grandchildren Levi and Caroline Holland; three sisters, Mildred Gore and Betty Young of Tupelo and Dorothy Kettlemen of Holly Bluff; three brothers, Travis Kitchen of Connecticut, Murle Kitchen and Charles Kitchen both of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Farrell Kitchen. The family will gather with friends following the graveside service at the cemetery. Memorial may be made to East Heights Baptist Church, 205 Lake St. Tupelo MS 38804.
