Obituary for Mittie Smith Unity - Mittie Jane Lyons Smith, 86, died Friday, September 30, 2011, at The Baldwyn Nursing Facility of North Mississippi Medical Center. A Lee County native and longtime resident of the Unity Community, she was born November 27, 1924, to Louis and Rennie Clementine Lyons. She was employed 36 years with Hunter-Sadler Manufacturing. She was married for 51 years to William Truitt Smith who preceded her in death on December 28, 1996. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, spending time outdoors, and traveling. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Boutwell officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her sister, Geneva Pearson of Saltillo; her brother, James Lyons of the Unity Community, a special friend, Lonnie Hampton of Baldwyn; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Sudie Pettigo and Lillie Bell Lyons; and a brother, Robert Lyons. Pallbearers will be her nephews.
