Obituary for Mayme Lucille Whitten Tupelo - Mayme Lucille Whitten, 99, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born April 24, 1912 in Burnsville, Mississippi to Willie Shell and Bertie Elledge Norman. She graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi and later attended Draughons Business College in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a long-time resident of Tupelo and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Steve Hurt officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Whitten of Tupelo; one brother, Robert Norman (Lou) of Bowling Green, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman Clifton Whitten; two brothers, Jourdan Norman and Milton Norman. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
